Neurasmus Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's in Neuroscience - Cohort 2027-2029 (EMJM Scholarships)

Overview

Neurasmus is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programme in neuroscience delivered by a consortium of leading European universities. Students study at two or more prestigious European institutions, following an interdisciplinary curriculum that spans molecular and cellular mechanisms through to cognitive and behavioural processes. All courses are taught in English.

The programme emphasises world-class faculty who are active researchers, a curriculum that evolves with the latest discoveries and technologies, hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art laboratories through lab rotations and internships, small class sizes with personalised mentorship, and a multicultural student community drawn from around the world. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, global health and neuroscience innovation.

Eligibility - Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in natural sciences or a related field, including but not limited to biology, chemistry, medicine or psychology.

• A solid understanding of fundamental concepts in biology, chemistry and mathematics is essential.

• Academic transcripts showing a strong academic record are required.

• A minimum GPA equivalent to the programme's requirements is expected; grades should reflect proficiency in courses relevant to neuroscience.

Eligibility - English Language

• IELTS (Academic) 6.5 with no band below 6; or

• TOEFL paper-based 580 / computer-based 237 / internet-based 93; or

• Certificate of Advanced English grade B/C; or

• Certificate of Proficiency in English grade B/C; or

• A letter from your university stating that the medium of instruction was English.

• The test must have been taken no more than two years before the course starts.

• Primary and Secondary Education certificates and 1-year exchange programme documentation can be accepted as English certificates.

• Exemptions may apply for native English speakers or those who completed prior education in English.

Required Documents

• Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting academic achievements, research experience and extracurricular activities.

• Motivation Letter explaining your interest in neuroscience, why you chose Neurasmus and your career aspirations.

• Official academic transcripts from all higher education institutions attended.

• Proof of English proficiency.

• Two recommendation letters from professors or professionals familiar with your academic and research capabilities. Reference letters are uploaded directly by your referees — if they have not uploaded them, you cannot submit your application.

• Incomplete or missing applications will not be considered.

How to Apply

All applications must be submitted through the online eMundus system. Paper applications or applications sent by email will not be considered.

• Click "Register" to create an account on the eMundus platform.

• Sign in with the username and password sent to your email.

• Complete all pages of the application form.

• Upload the required documents in the "Documents" section.

• Once all sections are 100% complete, click "Submit" and check that you receive a confirmation email.

• No hard copies need to be sent after online submission.

Application Form Notes

• Each completed page can be saved independently so you can return to the form at different times.

• Once submitted, data can only be modified until the end of the campaign.

• Fields marked in red are mandatory.

• The form must be completed in English and all attachments must also be in English (official translation is not required at this stage), in PDF or JPG format, no larger than 5 MB each.

• If automated emails do not arrive, check your spam folder.

• Applicants are strongly advised not to wait until the last minute, to avoid technical issues.

• If your application status is not 100% complete despite all documents being uploaded and fields filled, your referees have likely not yet submitted their reference letters.

Scholarships and Benefits

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) student scholarships are open to higher education students from all over the world and are awarded to the most appropriate candidates based on the selection ranking and the nationality rules set by the European Agency. Candidates should be fully aware of the financial costs of the programme, as at the time of application there is no guarantee a scholarship will be awarded. The programme also offers attractive fee waivers and multiple scholarships.

Scholarship Eligibility Rules

• Students who have already obtained an EMJMD scholarship, or who are former Erasmus Mundus Master/Doctoral Course scholarship holders, are not eligible for an additional scholarship.

• Scholarship holders cannot benefit from another EU grant while pursuing their studies.

• Scholarships are awarded exclusively for full-time enrolment in one of the course editions.

• Under the nationality rule, no more than three of the students selected for a scholarship should have the same nationality.

• Scholarship holders spending part of the course in their country of residence are not entitled to the monthly subsistence allowance for that period.

Appeals

If your application is not selected and you have strong reason to believe your complete application was not properly processed during the selection procedure, you may appeal by submitting a formal complaint to the Neurasmus Head Office. The electronic letter must include your name, address, User ID and valid grounds for appeal, and should be sent to neurasmus-application@u-bordeaux.fr. It will be reviewed by the Board of Education & Selection.
