Why Biodaraja exists

Every life sciences student in Kenya hears the same advice once graduation gets close: just apply. Apply to jobs. Apply to scholarships. Apply to anything.

It's advice that assumes the hard part is filling out a form, not knowing which form to fill out, when to fill it out, or how to make it good enough to actually win.

The truth is there are two separate gaps, not one. During the degree, most programs teach the syllabus and stop there, with no map for what to build outside class until it's too late to build it. After the degree, the guidance disappears completely, right when the hardest decisions start: how to find and win a scholarship abroad, how to search for a job with an actual plan instead of scattered applications, how to walk into an interview prepared, how to write a statement of purpose that doesn't read like everyone else's.

Both gaps get worse for the same reason: no one is tracking who needs what. Advice gets given once, in a hallway or a WhatsApp group, and then it's lost. Biodaraja exists to close both gaps, with guidance that's structured, and tracked, so it's there when it's needed and doesn't have to be given twice.
